The U.S. EPA took delivery of their LDV-built mobile lab vehicle for conducting lab work in the field. This mobile lab was built on a Ford E450 commercial cutaway chassis and includes a 6.8L EI V10 unleaded gas engine and 6-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, custom-fabricated aluminum cabinets have been integrated for storage space. A host of customer-supplied equipment has been added as well including a sub-zero laboratory freezer, incubator, field refrigerator, and fume hood for preservation of samples. A compact flammable cabinet has also been added for use in the field. Multiple VersaTie tracks have been added. Chemical and stain resistant laminate countertops are used for protection against lab tests being conducted.
On the exterior, a color backup camera system aids with parking duties. A 7kw 120 volt AC generator provides electric power to the vehicle in its own custom-fabricated generator housing. Emergency lights help with visibility when traveling to a scene. There are multiple points of entry into the vehicle including a curbside and rear entry door. For HVAC, a power roof ventilator, low-profile air conditioner, and a 5,120 Btu/hr electric heater has been integrated.
