Spring Valley Hook & Ladder (NY) recently took delivery of their emergency equipment vehicle. They chose a Ford F550 to build the vehicle on which includes a 6.8L V10 gas engine and a TorqShift 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. There is a curbside entry door with manual entry step and a rear entry door with a 30" wide aluminum flip-down step affixed to the rear bumper. Heavy-duty fluted grab handles provide support at both points of entry when entering or exiting the vehicle.
Inside are multiple custom-fabricated, aluminum box pan shelves for equipment storage. A set of shelves is fixed over the generator compartment and another on top of cascade SCBA bottles. A custom securement system for the cascade SCBA bottles and a fill system have been installed as well. Cylinder restraint straps ensure the bottles stay in place during transport while a cylinder storage rack provides storage space for up to 32 bottles.
On the outside, a 15-kW generator is housed in a custom-fabricated compartment. Two rear satin anodized roll-up doors provide staff a way to access SCBA bottles when outside the vehicle as well. A surge suppressor protects the entire AC system and a shore power package provides Spring Valley the ability to plug in the vehicle for power if needed. Emergency lights have been added to the exterior for visibility.
