Savage Fire Department (MN) Mobile Command Center

VEHICLE OVERVIEW

The Savage Fire Department (MN) recently took delivery of their new 24' mobile command center. Built on a Freightliner MT-55 forward control chassis, it features LDV's exclusive Intel-I-Touch™ vehicle automation system, making set-up and shutdown a snap when deployed to a scene. This system controls systems such as HVAC, lights, generators, slide-outs and so much more. An automatic electric entry step and LED ground light is found at both the front and rear curbside entrances.

This vehicle features two industry exclusive flat-floor slide-outs to maximize the interior of their front conference area. Inside, the front conference room features a triple pedestal table that can be stowed during transport. This table sits in the center of five workstations, three on the curbside and two on the streetside. Each workstation features a 32" 1080P HDR Smart HDTV, RJ-45 Cat6 computer network jacks, 20A-125Vac duplex receptacles with dual USB charging ports, and a spider-base task chair. Overhead are custom-fabricated aluminum cabinets.

In the center of the vehicle is a galley kitchen with a coffee maker, microwave, and 2.7 cu. ft. refrigerator. An onboard lavatory is also in the center of the vehicle and includes an Incinolet toilet, small countertop area and overhead custom-fabricated cabinet

A collaboration area is found in the rear with a stowable triple pedestal table surrounded by fixed bench seating in an L-shape. The fixed bench seating also includes removable cushions for additional storage space. This area also contains a generous electronics rack. To create privacy when needed, two flush magnetic pocket doors have been installed on heavy-duty aluminum tracks with one at the head of the front conference room and one separating the center of the vehicle from the rear work area.

On the outside, a heavy-duty non-locking telescoping pneumatic mast can be raised to keep watch over the vehicle's surroundings with two mast cameras. A 13' electric awning provides cover over the rear curbside entry door. HVAC duties are handled by three ducted low-profile air conditioners and two 12,000-16,000 Btu/hr direct discharge diesel-fired furnaces. When the vehicle needs power, a 20-kW 120-240Vac liquid-cooled diesel generator can be fired up to provide electric power. Emergency and scene lights have been integrated throughout the body of the vehicle, provide plenty of light as well as high visibility.

"I was very satisfied with the whole experience and process. I believe that the sales personnel and technicians are very knowledgeable and have years of institutional knowledge that shows in the execution of the unit. My questions were all ways answered immediately and if there was any reach back for additional confirmation it was always followed up with a phone call and email. The open lines of communication provided both of us the full awareness of where we were in the build process and helped eliminate unnecessary delays or unanswered questions. Everyone I encountered during my visits were always smiling and happy while working, which was great to see and experience. This is reflected in the finished product that was noticed by my staff and all others that have visited to see the new addition to our fleet."
