The Romeoville Police Department (IL) selected a Ford Transit for their Mobile Lab vehicle. The vehicle is powered by a 310HP 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. A custom fabricated overhead center console houses the emergency lighting and siren controller as well as their communications radio. A tool and gear storage compartment was integrated into the space behind the curbside sliding door for easy access from the outside of the vehicle. A generous awning provide shade during long on-scene operations. One of our weatherproof exterior workstations was integrated into the body of the vehicle as well with high resolution display monitor, CAT6 network jacks and more.
Entry into the vehicle is through the dual rear doors. Inside, there are two workstations with laminate countertops, magnetic dry erase white boards and dual high resolution display monitors. A multi-function printer on a slide-out tray was also installed. Custom fabricated aluminum cabinetry was selected for durability and storage. A flip down bench seat for a rear passenger was integrated as well. Custom aluminum box pan shelves for additional storage were installed. A magnetic dry erase white board on a pull-out mount in the rear of the vehicle allows for notes on-scene. An electronics rack is also included for the Department's equipment.
The creativity in this vehicle shows how you can maximize the available space in a small platform.
