The Rockland County Sheriff (NY) chose LDV to build their new bomb disposal vehicle. Built on a Freightliner M2 crew cab chassis, the vehicle features a 300EV HP engine and an Allison 2500 EVS automatic transmission with PTO provision. In the cab area, the department chose to incorporate a custom-fabricated center cab console to house their siren, communications radios, and other controls. They also created a custom K9 transport area, complete with a Premier K9 temperature monitoring system. Inside the vehicle is a dedicated area for a bomb robot with diamond plate flooring and streetside shelving. VersaTie tack and heavy-duty double stud tie down rings have been integrated into the floor for safe storage and transportation of the bomb robot. A pocket door on a heavy-duty aluminum track features a magnetic closure that can create separation between the robot and work areas. Three storage areas feature aluminum box pan shelving and satin anodized aluminum roll-up doors. The curbside storage cabinet features a slide-out aluminum shelf to utilize as a work area as well. At the front of the vehicle sits two workstations that both feature custom-fabricated aluminum cabinets with dry erase surfaces, task chairs, power outlets with USB chargers, and network connections. The curbside workstation features a monitor while the streetside workstation features a framed dry erase board. The exterior features a space for a magnetic porcelain marker board and a removable aluminum shelf for staff to work outside if needed. An 18' automatic awning provides cover for this area as well as the entry door. On the back, dual rear entry doors open to accommodate the bi-fold aluminum collapsible fold-out ramp. Body storage compartments have been integrated for additional storage space along with a dedicated compartment with slides for an Armag Type 3 IME/DOT box. An 8-kW 120 volt AC generator has also been installed in a custom-fabricated generator housing. HVAC is handled by two low-profile air conditioners and a wall-mount 5,120 Btu/hr electric heater. To assist with parking duties, a color backup camera system has been installed as well.
