Rockford Public Library of Illinois just took delivery of their new custom outreach vehicle (bookmobile). The vehicle is built on a 22-foot Ford F59 chassis and features all aluminum body construction. The bookmobile is powered by a Triton V-10 gasoline engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Exterior features include dual curbside self-closing entry doors and a rear swing out door for the Braun electric-hydraulic wheelchair lift. Electric steps are also included at each entry door. We equipped their bookmobile with a power retracting awning for shade. The exterior also has weatherproof 6X9 speakers with wireless microphone system, extreme duty body storage compartments and high-mount windows for additional light. Bright LED scene lights are also included. A weatherproof exterior monitor compartment with 43" 4K display is included on the exterior.
Interior features include a leather upgraded swivel driver's seat that also doubles as a workstation chair. A custom check out area with integrated book drop with cart and custom aluminum cabinet with dry erase writing surface provides storage. The Acore white powder coated bookshelves feature a 15-degree slantback for reading materials. In addition, there are five (5) custom powder coated book carts for additional media which can be stowed for transport inside the bookmobile. Counter tops are durable laminate and there are two (2) flip down work station counters. We also created custom fixed bench seating, the streetside includes a seatbelt for staff. A large TV compartment with 43" 4K monitor is installed in the ceiling which can be flipped down.
HVAC is handled by dual low profile rooftop A/C units with wall thermostat and a direct discharge gasoline fired furnace. An Onan Commercial Quiet 7kW gas generator supplies the electric power to the vehicle. A full vehicle surge suppression system is included. A Cradlepoint cellular router with roof mounted antennas is installed as well. CAT6 network wiring and jacks is utilized throughout.
