The Racine Police Department (WI) tasked LDV with building their mobile command center. They chose to build this impressive vehicle on a Freightliner MT-55 forward control chassis with a Cummins 300HP engine and Allison 2500 EVS automatic transmission with PTO provision. Blackout curtains have been provided for all of the cab windows, providing shade from the sun and privacy while deployed. A vehicle multiplex system has been incorporated to the vehicle as well with one main touchpad and three additional ones, providing Racine PD a way to control their different on-board vehicle systems with the touch of a button.
Inside, the front conference area features ample flip-down bench seating and fixed bench seating with removable cushions for additional storage. A framed whiteboard has been added above the fixed bench seating. Two fixed conference tables with fold-down leaves sit in front of the bench seating. Dual 46" monitors have been installed above the flip-down bench seating on the curbside wall. In the corner sits a custom-fabricated aluminum cabinet and electronics rack with a 24" Smart TV monitor sitting overhead.
The center of the vehicle features a galley kitchen with a hand pump water system, microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator. There are also custom-fabricated aluminum cabinets and a pull-out tray for a customer-supplied printer/fax machine/copier/etc.
At the rear of the vehicle are four additional workstations. Each workstation features overhead cabinets with dry erase surfaces, communications radios, spider-base chair, HDMI plug-ins, undercabinet LED lighting, and a 24" monitor. There is an additional 24" monitor between the workstations located on the rear wall of the vehicle. This area also features a tinted sliding egress window with a mini-blind. RJ-45 Cat6 computer network jacks are available at all workstations as well as the front conference area and exterior monitor.
The vehicle features a 32" monitor in a weatherproof housing next to the curbside entry door. A generous 18' awning provides coverage for those utilizing the monitor or doorway. On the rear is a heavy-duty, non-locking, telescoping pneumatic mast with cameras to keep watch over the department's surroundings while on a scene. The custom-fabricated box provides more space for an antenna and a second camera if desired. Supplying power to the vehicle when needed is a 20kW liquid-cooled diesel generator in a custom-fabricated housing. Roof access is granted by a swing-out and down ladder affixed to the back fo the vehicle. Ensuring the vehicle is level while deployed, a fully automatic vehicle leveling system was installed. A complete emergency lights and siren package finishes the vehicle off.
