Oakland Police Tactical Operations Unit

VEHICLE OVERVIEW

The Oakland Police Department’s Tactical Operations Unit chose a Ford F59 gas chassis for their SWAT vehicle. LDV’s Intel-I-Touch™ vehicle automation system has been integrated to automate startup and shutdown procedures as well as systems such as HVAC, lights, generators and more.

Two workstations at the front are positioned in front of fixed bench seating with removable cushions for additional storage space. Flip-down bench seating has been installed across from this conference area underneath an electronics cabinet. A galley kitchen with coffee maker and microwave is located in this area as well. The rear boasts three generous workstations as well as a scribe station, dry erase boards and storage cabinets with a counter top printer. Oakland PD chose to incorporate a flat-floor slide-out into the vehicle’s body as well, giving them additional interior space to work with when needed. This smart design is sure to be duplicated by departments who seek an efficient use of space but have limited length restraints.

On the exterior is an electric awning to provide cover for those outside the vehicle. HVAC is handled by two low-profile air conditioners and two electric heaters. A 7kW generator provides electric power to the vehicle when needed. To ensure the vehicle is level while at a scene, a fully automatic one touch leveling system has been installed. For parking assistance, a backup camera has been added as well. Emergency lighting finishes off the exterior.

"I was very satisfied with the whole experience and process. I believe that the sales personnel and technicians are very knowledgeable and have years of institutional knowledge that shows in the execution of the unit. My questions were all ways answered immediately and if there was any reach back for additional confirmation it was always followed up with a phone call and email. The open lines of communication provided both of us the full awareness of where we were in the build process and helped eliminate unnecessary delays or unanswered questions. Everyone I encountered during my visits were always smiling and happy while working, which was great to see and experience. This is reflected in the finished product that was noticed by my staff and all others that have visited to see the new addition to our fleet."

The best feature of the vehicle is the flush floor slide-out in the front of the vehicle. It provides a very functional work area and always receives favorable comments.
