NYPD selected a Spartan chassis with a 13' custom LDV body for their EOD team unit. The 13ft. long custom body vehicle includes a 450HP Cummins diesel engine and an Allison 3000 EVS transmission. A walk-through space from the cab to body is separated by a black powdercoated pocket door has been integrated at the front of the vehicle while a rear full swing door with window has been added to the back.
The cab includes a custom bi-fold aluminum collapsible fold-out ramp has been added for deployment of the department’s bomb robot when needed. For K-9 officers, an aluminum angle framed wire mesh K-9 cage with a door and latch has been fabricated. Custom-fabricated black aluminum cabinets have been added for storage throughout the vehicle. Sections of cargo netting have been integrated to the rear curbside storage area to protect equipment during transport. Pre-wire provisions have been made for radios in the cab area as well.
The body of the vehicle is designed with a great deal of equipment storage featuring custom-fabricated aluminum box pan shelves, slide-out and tilt slide shelving, and a pull-out step for exterior compartment access. A set of doors by the rear of the vehicle is for deployment of the robot ramp. Emergency lights were installed for high visibility when traveling to a scene. To access the roof, folding steps with hand-hold and raised pyramid tread and two roof grab handles are affixed to the rear of the vehicle.
