Nassau County Office of Emergency Management based out of New York chose LDV to create their new mobile command center/HNT unit. They chose a Ford F550 regular cab 2WD gas chassis to build their new command unit on, providing agility when navigating to a scene. It is powered by a 7.3L V8 gas engine and 6-speed TorqShift automatic transmission with overdrive. The cab features a custom-fabricated console to house the emergency lights and siren. A manual double entry step provides access through the curbside entry door.
The walk through from the cab to the work area of the vehicle can be closed off by the flush pocket door that has been installed on a heavy-duty aluminum track. A large custom-fabricated closet includes adjustable shelving to evolve with Nassau County's evolving equipment needs. Custom-fabricated aluminum cabinets provide overhead storage and are faced with dry erase writing surfaces. Installed on the rear wall are two 43" Samsung 4K Ultra Smart LED TVs which can provide a feed from the rear mast to those working at the five workstations inside the vehicle. Each workstation features a spider-base task chair, RJ-45 Cat6 computer network jacks, and communications radios. Next to the curbside workstations, a galley area has been added with a 2.7 cu.ft. refrigerator and an overhead microwave.
On the rear of the vehicle is a heavy-duty non-locking telescoping pneumatic mast. To help keep watch over the command center's surroundings, a Dome Network camera with Lightfinder technology has also been installed. HVAC is handled by a Coleman Mach 8 low-profile air conditioner, Broan wall mount 5,120 Btu/hr electric heater, and a 13,600 BTU direct discharge gasoline-fired furnace with an individual thermostat. Providing electric power to the vehicle when needed is an Onan Commercial QG 7kW generator in custom-fabricated all-aluminum compartment.
