The Milwaukee Police Department (WI) selected a Ford E-450 Cutaway for the chassis of their new bomb squad vehicle. The vehicle features a 6.8L Triton V-10 (gas) engine with 6-speed automatic transmission for non-CDL required operation. The body is an all aluminum dry van body for durability. A custom bi-fold aluminum ramp with 1,000 lb. capacity was integrated into the body for deployment of their robot. A Zone Defense color back-up camera system was also installed for easy parking maneuvers. A huge exterior awning was also integrated for operations outside the vehicle. A complete emergency lighting and siren package was installed as well.
Inside, the vehicle features a single workstation with laminate countertop, spider base task chair and high resolution 32" display monitor. A dry erase white board was also included. Custom fabricated aluminum cabinetry was installed throughout the interior for gear storage. Eight custom fabricated adjustable aluminum box pan shelving on both the curbside and streetside of the interior provides additional storage space. An Armag® ATF Day Box with double lock cover was also installed.
An Onan® Commercial 7kW generator housed within one of our custom fabricated generator compartments produces electric power for the vehicle when on-scene. A single low profile rooftop-mounted A/C unit with thermostat handles the cooling duties while a single 7,500BTU gasoline-fired furnace handles the heating. This bomb squad vehicle is a perfect example of an agile platform with big features!
