The Massachusetts State Police had LDV create their new bomb/EOD vehicle for their department. Built on a Ford E-450 commercial cutaway chassis, the 14 ft. long vehicle features a 6.8L Triton V10 gas engine and an electronic 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
A bi-fold aluminum collapsible fold-out ramp for deployment of a bomb robot or loading and unloading other equipment. Dual rear doors provide another entry point as well as the point to deploy the robot and ramp. VersaTie track and VersaTie heavy-duty double stud tie down rings aid in storing the robot when it is not in service. Ample box pan shelves provide storage on the streetside of the vehicle. A workstation with overhead cabinet, electronics rack, and a slide-out tray has been added to the curbside of the vehicle. For hanging bomb suits, a heavy-duty hanging rod has been installed in the closet. Pre-wire and installation provisions have been added for the communications radio.
On the exterior, an awning has been added to cover those coming in and out of the vehicle. A low-profile air conditioner and a direct discharge gasoline-fired furnace handle HVAC needs. To supply electric power when needed, a 7kW 120 volt AC generator has been installed in its own custom-fabricated all-aluminum compartment. Emergency lights finish off the exterior as well.
