Leawood Police Department (KS) Mobile Command Center

VEHICLE OVERVIEW

The Leawood Police Department (KS) chose a Freightliner M2 106 conventional extended cab for their new mobile command center. It boasts a Cummins 300EV HP engine and an Allison 2500 EVS automatic transmission with PTO provision. Two industry-exclusive flat-floor slide-outs were integrated into the 20' dry van body to increase the interior space for staff utilizing the vehicle. The flat-floor slide-outs are deployed via LDV's Intel-I-Touch™ vehicle automation system. This system also automates start-up and shutdown procedures as well as controlling vehicle systems such as the generator, HVAC, lighting, and more. A set of pull-out aluminum steps provides entry into the vehicle and is stored in a narrow cassette. There is also a fold-out handrail to assist with entry.

Leawood's mobile command center features a custom-fabricated console in the cab area and includes space for the siren controller and communications radio. At the front of the vehicle is a conference room with six workstations and a fixed conference table. Each workstation includes a 32" Smart HDTV, HDMI inputs, network jacks, and duplex receptacles with dual USB charging ports. On the front wall is a 55" 4K UHD Smart HDTV as well. One of the workstations also includes  dual communications radios and speakers as well. An FRP pocket door on a heavy-duty aluminum track provides privacy when needed by creating separation between spaces. For convenience, a galley kitchen with an electric galley water system, microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator has been added. Laminate countertops have been used throughout for their durability. Magnetic dry erase boards have been integrated inside the vehicle with some providing access to the electronics rack for maintenance as well. Custom-fabricated aluminum cabinets provide storage inside the vehicle.

On the exterior of the vehicle is a heavy-duty, non-locking telescoping pneumatic mast with a dome network camera and Lightfinder technology. A weatherproof exterior workstation has also been added to the vehicle which includes a 55" 4K HDR LED Smart HDTV, RJ-45 Cat6 computer network jacks, and 20A-125Vac duplex receptacles. Providing cover and shade for those working outside is an 18' electric awning. Supplying power to the vehicle is a 20kW liquid-cooled diesel generator when needed. Ample underbody storage compartments have been integrated into the body, providing additional storage space. To ensure that the vehicle is level while deployed on any terrain, a fully automatic vehicle leveling system has been included as well. A complete emergency lights and siren package was also integrated for high visibility. Leawood's department graphics finish off the exterior and provide color to their mobile command center.

"I was very satisfied with the whole experience and process. I believe that the sales personnel and technicians are very knowledgeable and have years of institutional knowledge that shows in the execution of the unit. My questions were all ways answered immediately and if there was any reach back for additional confirmation it was always followed up with a phone call and email. The open lines of communication provided both of us the full awareness of where we were in the build process and helped eliminate unnecessary delays or unanswered questions. Everyone I encountered during my visits were always smiling and happy while working, which was great to see and experience. This is reflected in the finished product that was noticed by my staff and all others that have visited to see the new addition to our fleet."
