The Illinois State Police was looking for a versatile SWAT/Tactical Situation Command Unit for their operations. The Ford Transit High Roof 350 was selected for these three new vehicles for its versatility, fuel economy and easy of use on scene. The vehicles each feature a 275HP 3.5L EcoBoost engine with 10-speed automatic transmission with sliding side entry door as well as rear entry doors. A custom fabricated weatherproof exterior workstation was integrated into the curbside wall of each vehicle which each house a 32" LED Smart TV monitor and flip-down work surface.
We custom fabricated pull-out aluminum steps for easy entry into the vehicles as well. Once inside the vehicle, fixed bench seating with hinged cushions for underseat storage were built in our upholstery shop and installed. A stowable folding chair was included and secured behind the driver seat. An overhead bulkhead houses communications radio, emergency lighting controls and more. Aluminum storage cabinets were included with undercabinet LED lighting. The overhead cabinet has dry erase writing surface. A second 32" display monitor is installed along with a locking slide-out work surface to create a versatile workstation. An overhead grab handle was installed on the ceiling for staff.
A complete emergency lighting and siren package was also integrated. These incredible vehicles showcase what is possible with a well-designed Transit vehicle platform.
