Hayward Library (CA) Bookmobile

Hayward Library of California recently took delivery of this new bookmobile they call "CURBIE." Built on a Ford Commercial Cutaway E-450 chassis, the bookmobile features a Triton V-10 engine (gasoline) with 6-speed automatic transmission. The aluminum body has an exterior storage compartment and a 15ft. electric awning. We installed bright LED scene lighting as well. A powerful Onan 7kW generator supplies electric power to the vehicle. A full vehicle surge suppression system protects the vehicle's electronics. A power retracting entry step has also been installed. There is also a weatherproof monitor compartment on the curbside exterior. We also installed a wireless microphone system.   Inside, the vehicle features powder coated Acore bookshelves with 15° slantback. The front of the interior has a check out area with custom book drop. We integrated a swing out rear door with Braun electric hydraulic wheelchair lift for accessibility. There is an aluminum storage closet with adjustable shelving. An overhead cabinet at the workstation has dry erase writing surface on the door. A wireless microphone system with ceiling speakers has also been installed. Custom book bins are also included. A sliding egress window has been included in the layout for safety.
