Ed Ornelas’s 22ft. Freightliner MT-55 Tool Truck

Ed Ornelas’s new tool truck is built on a 22ft. Freightliner MT-55 powered by a 6.0L 308HP gas engine and a 2200 HS Allison automatic transmission with park pawl. This all-aluminum construction also features hydraulic brakes, chrome heated power mirrors, a chrome bumper, and single rear swing door. To assist with loading and unloading heavy inventory, the 2,000lb. all-aluminum lift gate has been added to the rear as well. Two aluminum weather resistant storage boxes have also been integrated into the exterior of the tool truck.

The double 20″ wide repair stacks with ColorCore face-frame features various drawers, a vise tray, a carpeted straight hammer display, and a glass front refrigerator. Across from the repair stack is the ColorCore L-shaped workstation featuring a 22″ wide drawer stack, tool chute, a lockable metal cash drawer, trash can, and LED lighted knife display. Other displays found in the tool truck include a cordless power tool display. Zinc coated e-track and black slatwall provide easy reconfiguration of displays as inventory changes. VersaFlex drawers have also been integrated into the ColorCore shelving, along with overstock storage bins.

Providing electric power to the vehicle when needed is a 7KW gas generator in an all-aluminum sound attenuated enclosure. There are also six 6-volt batteries are mounted in an all-aluminum exterior compartment. HVAC is handled by a 53,000 BTU engine driven air conditioner and two 15,000 BTU roof top air conditioners. Prep for a fuel fired furnace has also been completed for later installation. The color back-up camera assists with parking duties.
