East Baton Rouge Sheriff (LA) Mobile Crime Lab

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's office in Louisiana recently took delivery of this impressive new mobile crime lab! Built on a Ford F-550 XL SD diesel cab, this chassis affords them the agility needed to navigate to any scene. They chose to integrate one of LDV's weatherproof exterior workstations with a 32" monitor, HDMI input, GFCI duplex outlet, 12V combination outlet with a USB charger, and Night Scan input onto the exterior of their vehicle. We also integrated extreme duty body storage compartments for gear storage. On the rear, a 30" wide aluminum flip-down step has been added to the rear bumper to provide easy access to the rear entry door.

A workstation is located at the front of the vehicle with custom-fabricated overhead cabinets, communications radio, under cabinet lighting, and a magnetic framed dry erase board. The faces of the overhead cabinets have dry erase surfaces for additional writing space. Wilsonart laminate has been used on the countertops for durability. The lab area features a stainless steel countertop with more custom-fabricated drawers. A sink with a hand pump galley water system and Norcold 2.7 cu.ft. refrigerator help complete this section of the lab. On the street side, a customer supplied fuming chamber and ductless downflow workstation sit on more custom-fabricated cabinets. Two custom storage areas with adjustable aluminum box pan shelves also feature satin anodized roll-up doors to keep equipment safe during transport. Another storage area also features mesh cargo netting for use when transporting gear back and forth as well.

The exterior of the vehicle features a 16' Dometic awning that provides coverage to those using the curbside entry door. Four Whelen telescoping tripod light poles are stowed on the exterior of the vehicle and can be used to illuminate the scene when needed. A Will-Burt Night Scan light tower has been installed on the roof and provides ample light at a scene while a rear ladder provides access to the roof. HVAC is handled by two Coleman Mach 8 series low-profile air conditioners keep things cool in the Louisiana heat. An Onan Commercial Quiet Diesel 12-kW generator has been installed in its own custom-fabricated all-aluminum compartment. To complete the mobile crime lab, graphics have been added to the exterior along with an emergency lights and siren package.
