Detroit Police Department (MI) Mobile Command Center

We recently completed this custom mobile command center for the Detroit Police Department. The command center is built on a Freightliner M2 conventional cab chassis with a 56,000lb GVWR and an all aluminum body. The command center is powered by a CUMMINS L9 360 HP diesel engine with an Allison 3000EVS automatic transmission. We fabricated and installed two of our industry-exclusive flat floor slide-outs to maximize the available interior workspace. LDV’s exclusive Intel-I-Touch™ vehicle automation system is installed to simplify the deployment of the truck on scene. Localized mini Intel-I-Touch panels have also been installed. The vehicle can also be deployed with our Intel-I-Touch system with an Apple iPad. A weatherproof exterior workstation has been integrated into the passenger side slide out along with a 55″ Samsung QLED 4K Outdoor display monitor. Our Extreme Duty body storage boxes offer additional gear storage. A non-locking pneumatic mast has been installed on the rear of the command center with dome network IP cameras for surveillance. A Will-Burt Night Scan LED light tower has also been added. A large lateral arm awning provides shade in the summer. A complete emergency lighting and siren package has also been installed.

Inside, the command center features a front conference room with a center table and seating for six. Each slide out has flip down bench seating. A 50″ touchscreen monitor has been wall mounted to the streetside slideout. Sliding egress windows are also included for safety. The curbside slide-out wall has a 43″ high resolution display monitor and dual magnetic surface dry erase white boards. A magnetic soft closure pocket door provides privacy. The center of the vehicle features a lavatory with both inside and outside access. A roll up compartment with rifle securement is also part of the center area of the command center. A galley with microwave and coffee maker is also included. The vehicle also includes a 2.5 gallon hot water heater. A large electronics rack is utilized to house all of the installed equipment. Interior lighting is LED throughout the vehicle.

The rear room features four workstations. 24″ high resolution display monitors are included for staff. Custom aluminum cabinetry is installed with dry erase writing surface on the overhead cabinets. Overhead cabinets feature LED undercabinet lighting. We prewired and installed all of the customer’s communications radios as well. The HVAC system includes four ducted low profile rooftop A/C units and three direct discharge furnaces. A powerful 20kW liquid-cooled generator with a full vehicle surge suppression system handles the power generation for the vehicle. Additional features include 5 perimeter IP cameras, an automatic multi-satellite TV antenna and dual DirecTV commercial satellite receivers. We also installed a 16×8 HDMI matrix switcher to handle the video source feeds throughout the command center.
