The Dartmouth Police Department had us build them a new mobile command vehicle for their department. Their vehicle is built on a Ford E-450 Commercial Cutaway chassis with dual rear wheels and is powered by a 6.8L Triton V10 (gas) engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The body is a custom all aluminum 14ft. dry van body with sliding door access to the cab area. Entry into the vehicle is courtesy of curbside and rear entry doors. The rear door features a custom fabricated flip-down rear step.
Inside, the vehicle features three workstations complete with communications radios and 32" high resolution displays. Custom aluminum cabinets provide storage for gear. A galley with microwave and refrigerator was included. In the rear is a conference room with stowable two-section table. Fixed bench seats were construction that feature under-cushion storage. Magnetic dry erase white boards were built and integrated into the interior as well. We also prewired and made provisions for customer-supplied communications radios and computer.
A low profile air conditioner with thermostat handles the cooling inside the vehicle while 2 wall-mounted electric heaters handle the heating in the cooler months. An 7kW generator housed in a custom fabricated generator housing provides electric power for the vehicle.
On the outside, two Kwik Raise pole lights were installed for night operations. An LDV-built, custom fabricated weatherproof exterior workstation was integrated into the body with flip-down work surface and electronics for operations outside the vehicle. A manual telescoping mast was installed to the outside of the vehicle with a dome network camera with lightfinder technology.
