Brevard County Library (FL) recently took delivery of their new custom bookmobile. Brevard County selected a Ford E-450 Commercial Cutaway chassis, the bookmobile features a 17ft. dry van body with a curbside entry door, Triton V10 and an automatic transmission. Their bookmobile has a GVW of only 14,000lbs. (non-CDL) which means anyone on staff can drive the vehicle. We installed a Braun Century Series electric-hydraulic wheelchair lift for accessibility into the vehicle that is operated via handheld controller. A manual retractable awning was also included in the design to provide shade from the hot Florida sun.
Entry into the vehicle is simplified with the power electric step and LED automatic courtesy light. Once inside, dual high-top counters can be used to aid book checkouts, light tan powder coated modular aluminum bookshelves line the sidewalls and a custom matching book cart is included. All bookshelves have a 15° slatback to ensure materials stay put during transport between stops. A tall aluminum storage cabinet with dry erase writing surface was installed at the rear for additional storage and a fixed bench seat was built into the interior as well.
A low-profile air conditioner was installed on the roof and is operated with a wall mounted thermostat. An electric heater was also installed. LED lighting throughout provides a bright and inviting interior. An Onan Commercial 7kW generator supplied plenty of electric power for the vehicle as well. Lastly, the bookmobile commands attention on the route with a vibrant full vehicle wrap.
