The Boston PD recently took delivery of their new rapid response vehicle. Powered by a 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo diesel engine and a TorqShift 6-Speed Automatic transmission, this rapid response vehicle packs a big punch on a small platform.
An overhead light has been wired to become a courtesy light when the entry door is opened. Laminate countertops cover the workstation area as well as the opposing counter area. Custom-fabricated aluminum cabinets provide storage throughout the interior. A single workstation sits next to a 120/240Vac control center and a 5-drawer unit. Overhead cabinets with dry erase doors and under cabinet LED lights also sit above the workstation. For the storage closet, motion latch doors help keep them secure during transit while a heavy-duty stainless-steel hanging rod sits inside. On the back wall, a Bradley On-Site Portable Gravity-Fed eyewash station can be found.
On the exterior, a 30" wide bolt-on flip-down step can be found on the rear bumper, allowing access to the vehicle. A wall-mounted 5,120Btu/hr electric heater keeps things warm in the Boston winters while a low-profile air conditioner keeps things cool. Two deep-cycle 6Vdc batteries have been installed for auxiliary equipment in a slide-out weather resistant aluminum compartment. An awning provides cover for those outside. A 6.0-kW 120 volt AC generator keeps things humming along in a custom-fabricated generator housing. An exterior storage compartment provides additional storage outside the vehicle as well.
