Built on a Freightliner MT-55 forward control chassis, the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Library bookmobile features all aluminum body construction, Cummins B6.7L diesel engine with an automatic transmission and rear air suspension. Enter into the vehicle through the curbside self-closing door and you are greeted with a huge 32" flip-down monitor for media-use, brightly colored aluminum cabinetry, brightly colored laminate counter tops, a check out desk and more. Custom powder coated bookshelves and a book cart provide media storage. Custom book/media bins are also included in the design. Two cork boards were integrated as well as an exterior PA system.
To make the vehicle more comfortable, dual Bostrom Pro-Ride front seats were added with the ability to swivel 180° to be used at the check-out desk. There is also a microwave on board for convenience while on the route. A color backup camera system helps with parking the vehicle. HVAC duties are handled by dual rooftop A/C units with thermostat as well as two direct discharge furnaces. A 10kW Onan Commercial Quiet generator supplies the electric power to the truck once set-up on location. Four high power LED scene lights illuminate the outside of the bookmobile after hours.
