The Bernalillo County Sheriff tasked LDV with creating their new BAT unit for their department. Built on a Freightliner MT-55 forward control chassis, the vehicle features a 300HP engine and an Allison 2500 EVS automatic transmission. Two automatic electric steel entry steps have been installed under the passenger and curbside doors for easy access into the vehicle.
Bernalillo County chose to incorporate three flat-floor slide-outs into the design of their vehicle to maximize the interior area. A vehicle multiplex system assists with startup, shut down and systems like HVAC and generators. The front of the vehicle features a work area with seven workstations and an area to put up the stowable table. The table can be stored by the driver’s seat when not in use. The center features a lavatory with electric toilet system and a galley kitchen complete with microwave, coffee maker, and fridge for staff convenience. A rear holding area includes two holding cells covered with aluminum diamond plate and include a floor drain and an aluminum flip-down bench seat.
A ladder has been added to the back for access to the rooftop with two telescoping tripod light poles flanking each side. To provide cover for those working outside the vehicle, an electric awning has been installed as well. HVAC needs are handled by three low-profile air conditioners and three electric heaters. A 20-kW generator has also been installed to provide electric power when needed. Underbody storage compartments provide additional storage space on the exterior of the vehicle. An automatic vehicle leveling system ensures the vehicle sits level while at a scene.
