The Antioch PD (CA) recently took delivery of their mobile command center. This project was unique for LDV as we converted the chassis that the customer supplied to us. Originally an LDV-built TECHKNOW vehicle our tool crew was the first to get their hands on the vehicle and worked to remove items such as the existing rear door and wall panels, rear portion of the skirts, and PRV. They also removed the existing liftgate which would have been used to load and unload inventory while patching the holes the lift gate left.
Once the necessary features were removed, a new rear wall structure and panels were installed. On the rear, a custom-built full body width aluminum treadplate rear bumper with Diamondback open grating step surface was added along with a diamond plate panel above the rear bumper. The area where the liftgate had been was replaced with a 32" wide rear entry door with a locking handle assembly and a 30" wide bolt-on flip down step for an additional point of entry. A new straight skirt with no taper were added to the areas where the original rear skirt were removed. The roof was also patched where the PRV was removed. Original graphics on the vehicle were stripped, giving LDV a clean slate to work with.
In addition to the elements that were converted on this vehicle, we installed two awnings, one on each side of the vehicle. Inside, the front of the vehicle includes three work spaces with overhead custom-fabricated cabinets, an electronics rack, communications radios, and CAT6 computer network jack. The back conference area features both flip-down and fixed bench seating which also includes removable cushions for additional storage space. A fixed conference table with a fold-down leaf provides a space for collaboration to happen. For privacy, a pocket door has been installed on a heavy-duty aluminum track to separate the back work area from the front.
On the exterior, a weatherproof workstation was integrated into the vehicle's body and includes an internal flip-down work surface, LED strip light, USB outlet, GFCI outlet, HDMI input jack, radio, CAT6 jack, and 43" TV monitor. A heavy-duty non-locking telescoping pneumatic mast has been installed on the rear and includes a lookup light, dome network camera with Lightfinder technology, and a video decoder all controlled by a surveillance joystick. Emergency lights and siren were added for visibility, especially when traveling to a scene.
