Reaching Out with The Night Ministry of Illinois

When the Night Ministry of Illinois first reached out to LDV, they were looking for a supplier to provide them with a new outreach vehicle for reaching unhoused members of the community. The mission is to provide free healthcare to those that need it. Built on a Ford F59 chassis, their vehicle features a 7.3L gasoline engine with a 6-speed TorqShift automatic transmission and an all aluminum body construction.

The new vehicle is built much more solidly, so it’s going to be durable on the streets of Chicago,” said David Wywialowski, Director of Outreach and Health Ministry. “We based the current design on what worked and what didn’t in our previous unit. The Health Outreach Program team was part of the design planning.

Inside, the outreach vehicle has a front conference/meeting room with fixed bench seating and seat belts for staff. A removable center table has also been included. Magnetic closure pocket doors provide privacy when needed. Custom aluminum cabinets are installed. The center of the vehicle has a lavatory complete with toilet and corner sink. A large storage closet is also included in the center area.

The rear patient room features an exam table, sink and medical grade refrigerator. A safe has also been installed in one of the lower cabinets in the rear room. A Welch Allyn diagnostics set has been wall mounted.

Offering clients the dignity and respect to be seen in a professional office is very important to us. They might be hesitant for any number of reasons about why they’re not going to a clinic on their own, but they trust us and our staff,” said Wywialowski. “We are proud to offer them a mobile health office that is as professional as any brick-and-mortar clinic.”

Entry into the vehicle is by dual entry doors, each with an electric step. Extreme duty body storage compartments have also been adde for additional gear storage. We integrated a PA system for the interior and exterior with local volume control for the interior speaker system. The outreach vehicle also has LED interior lighting throughout.

From start to finish, it was a wonderful experience working with the LDV Team.  They walked us through everything we wanted for our vehicle, kept us posted about building progress, and we are very pleased with the final result.”
