Providing Healthcare for Vulnerable Communities
Trillium Health Assists Underserved Communities with Inaugural Mobile Medical Program
In 2010, two New York health organizations joined forces to create Trillium Health, combining resources to effectively deliver healthcare to the most vulnerable communities in the surrounding area. Trillium Health’s mission is to promote health equity through affordable and extraordinary primary and specialty care while providing compassion to the patients they serve. Everyone, including those with complex medical and social needs, has access to the care and support needed for a healthy, positive life.
Serving Their Community
Based in Rochester, New York, Trillium launched their first mobile medical clinic on December 9, 2019. This program works as an extension of their clinic and is intended to provide stigma-free healthcare services including general wellness check-ups and free testing. They work with patients to help with insurance enrollment while assisting them with obtaining low or no-cost prescriptions. Trillium’s program also helps to connect patients with supportive services or specialists who treat more complex health care needs.
Initially, the mobile medical program will serve approximately 640 patients a month. Once expanded hours begin in the Spring, this monthly number will grow to 2,800 patients. Right now, the clinic rotates among four different Rochester-based sites including the Out Alliance, the Center for Youth, Trillium Health’s Harm Reduction Program, and the MOCHA Center of Rochester. The mobile clinic is looking to expand its services to additional areas in the future.
“For many people, accessing quality healthcare is a challenge because they lack transportation or believe finances are a barrier. Our new mobile clinic removes these barriers to care by bringing healthcare and supportive services to people in need, supported by an experienced and compassionate medical team.” – Mary Beth Walker, Director of Marketing & Communications for Trillium Health
About Their Vehicle
Trillium Health chose LDV to create a well-designed mobile medical vehicle to help them reach their healthcare goals. They specified two exam rooms and a waiting area, which LDV accommodated within the vehicle’s design. The exam rooms are located front and rear exam room complete with exam table, flip-down bench seating, custom-fabricated cabinets, a sink with pressurized water system, and customer-supplied sharps containers and Welch Allyn medical equipment. Patients in a wheelchair can access the vehicle via an electric wheelchair lift. When not in use, the lift is stowed in the rear exam room. A medical grade refrigerator was also installed for storing samples and other temperature sensitive materials.
“LDV was very flexible and responsive to our needs. They were efficient and timely with the schedule. They have many years of experience and have proven to be experts within the industry.” – explained Walker
