Mid-Size Vehicles Pack a Punch
Smaller Chassis Options When a Large Custom Vehicle Isn’t Needed
Often, the perception is that a mobile command center needs to be mega-sized. But that doesn’t have to be the case! Like all of the custom vehicles we design and build, we work with you to determine the best chassis and size for your needs and the options and features to build the vehicle you really want. We can assess your gear, number of staff that will be working in the vehicle, ease of use, electronics equipment needs and so on to make a recommendation. From Sprinters and Transits, four-wheel drive Ford F550s, to a commercial chassis like the walk-in style van, we can create a capable command vehicle that fits your staffing requirements and budget at any size.
Commercial Step Van
Accommodates: 10-15 staff members
Los Alamos National Lab based out of New Mexico recently took delivery of their new mobile command center. The lab chose to start with one of our proven LDV stock series vehicles. The customer chose to add an awning and electric wall mount heater to the command center. This vehicle was already outfitted with our Intel-I-Touch™ vehicle automation system to simplify startup and shutdown procedures as well as a single flat-floor slide-out for additional interior space in the front conference area. This vehicle can comfortably accommodate between ten and fifteen staff members depending on your needs at the scene. There are also four workstations found at the rear of the vehicle for a dedicated work space. Other popular amenities such as a galley area, electronics rack, magnetic closure pocket doors, weatherproof exterior workstation, and 20kW diesel generator to supply plenty of electric power have also been included in this vehicle.
Ford F550 – Medium Body
Accommodates: 8-9 staff members
One of our international customers chose a Ford F550 chassis to build their new incident command vehicle. This international customer integrated features that provide comfort and convenience in the hot desert environment such as a high-brightness TV in the weatherproof exterior workstation and two high output, extreme climates international series air conditioners. Featuring a corner workstation and conference area, the vehicle can comfortably accommodate eight to nine staff members. Red LED lights can be used during night operations or staff can use the full or half LED lights when needed. An open framed electronics rack houses multiple components such as the UPS link and wireless airlink router, and can be pulled out when any component needs service. KIPIC’s incident command center shows how you can configure a smaller platform to accommodate any type of environment you and your staff may be working within. This chassis type can be ordered in both 2WD and 4WD configurations.
Ford F550 – Small Body
Accommodates: 4-5 staff members
Nassau County EM created a versatile mobile command center that is agile and easy to deploy to a scene quickly. With its layout of five workstations, the vehicle can also double as a mobile office for four to five staff members if needed. Choosing a popular chassis such as a Ford F550 2WD regular cab creates a robust command center while its popularity ensures that parts and service are readily available when needed. A walk-through provides access to the work area from the cab and can be closed off with a flush pocket door when needed. The shelves within the custom-fabricated closet can be adjusted to fit the department’s equipment needs as they evolve. Many heavy-duty features such as a rear-mounted non-locking telescoping pneumatic mast and dome network IP camera with Lightfinder technology have been included on this vehicle. We can customize a vehicle of this size further with an exterior awning, telescoping light poles, body storage compartments and more.
Accommodates: 3-4 staff members
The Ford Transit is such a versatile chassis. We can design the vehicle for covert operations with minimal exterior add-ons or as a completely customized vehicle in a small package. The vehicle shown here features an aluminum wire chase wire management system, 7kW generator, full vehicle surge suppression system, two 28” 4K display monitors, and more. There is ample room for their specialized equipment, they elected to add high end chairs for additional comfort for staff and the vehicle retains a covert appearance from the outside. Three to four staff members can comfortably work within this vehicle for long periods of time. Additional options for a vehicle of this size would be an exterior awning, weatherproof exterior workstation, rooftop satellite and more.
These recent deliveries showcase several different chassis types and sizes to suit each agency’s needs and budget.
