LDV’s Retrofit Service

Refreshing aging trucks with new technology.

In this blog, we will show you some of our many projects that showcase LDV’s ability to update and improve an existing vehicle by retrofitting with modern technology. LDV’s retrofit service performs basic inspections on all of the components, vehicle structure, locks, lights, electronics, all chassis fluids and more before any work begins. Reconfigure your quality custom vehicle to suit your ever-changing needs. To learn more about our commitment to vehicle retrofits, call our special service vehicles sales department: 800-558-5986.

Several years ago, the US Marshals contracted with two custom vehicle vendors to produce a total of three mobile command vehicles: One large vehicle and two smaller units. LDV built the larger of three vehicles which can be found HERE. Our engineers worked extensively with the US Marshals to ensure the vehicle could be loaded and transported via cargo plane. We recently completed a technology retrofit on the vehicle last year. The US Marshals have two of these mobile command centers in service which were built by a different company initially. We just completed an extensive retrofit on this first vehicle including a complete removal and disposal of the interior, all the wiring and HVAC system. The dark and dimly lit interior wasn’t very functional.

St. Louis Park of Minnesota’s vehicle was originally built by LDV in 2008. We completely reconfigured the interior including new ceiling, new walls, new flooring, new flip down work surfaces, a new conference table with folding leafs and more. To start the project, we removed the entire interior of the step van including the electronics, radios, cabinets, galley, benches and more. The newly reconfigured interior has a front work room with three secured spider base task chairs and flip down laminate counter. New magnetic surface dry erase white boards are also included. Four new 32″ LED TV monitors are installed on wall mount brackets. We also installed a digital HDTV antenna and HDMI matrix switcher. An Extron ShareLink Pro collaboration gateway has also been installed. We also removed the old mast from the vehicle.

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission Mobile Agency Unit was built in 2017 and came back to us for some updates! The vehicle features a Freightliner MT-55 forward control chassis, all aluminum body, dual LDV-fabricated flat floor slide-outs, our Intel-I-Touch™ vehicle automation system, vehicle leveling and a powerful 15kW diesel generator to supply plenty of electric power to the unit. The exterior of the truck also has two large awnings to provide shade in the summer. Entry is courtesy of a pull out aluminum stair cassette or included wheelchair lift. Custom fabricated aluminum cabinets are included for storage. Solid surface counter tops have been utilized for durability. A custom fabricated weatherproof exterior monitor compartment was also included in the original build which houses a 40″ LED Smart display monitor. CAT6 network wiring and jacks have also been utilized throughout. Custom blue backdrop photo background were also installed for on-board photos to be taken of vehicle motorists.

Inside, there are three workstations with privacy walls, flip down bench seating, bright LED interior lighting and more to function as a stand alone MVC unit.

We installed a new blackout curtain for the side entry door. We also updated the Intel-I-Touch™ programming to ensure worry free operation. We had prepared the roof originally for a future satellite dish which we installed during this retrofit service. We also serviced the vehicle leveling system.
