Platforms to Keep You Rapidly Responding
LDV Offers Multiple Platforms for SWAT and Rapid Response Applications
Departments looking for a new SWAT or rapid response vehicle want to provide their staff with a functional mobile work environment that is always at the ready. With the ability to configure your vehicle to include weapons storage, personnel seating, communications, surveillance and more, there are multiple platform options to pick from when you choose LDV as your specialty vehicle manufacturer.
A Ford Transit or a Sprinter van is a great choice for departments wanting an agile platform for their SWAT or rapid response vehicle. Fixed bench seating with removable cushions can provide additional storage space. Heavy duty aluminum storage cabinets can include adjustable shelving to reconfigure the space for your equipment. Aluminum roll-up doors ensure this equipment is transported to the scene in a safe manner. For additional privacy, a blackout curtain can provide separation between the cab and load space. Adding an exterior workstation provides your staff the ability to take on-screen operations outside to work directly with those who are on the scene. Check out the photos below of a recent Sprinter build we completed for the Oak Creek (WI) Police Department SWAT team.
For departments looking for a highly adaptable platform, a commercial cutaway chassis provides the desired flexibility. Dual commander seats are integrated by the front of the vehicle and stowed away when not in use. Fixed bench seating with hinged cushions creates additional storage space inside the vehicle. Magnetic dry erase boards framed in aluminum can be added for use during meetings. Twin rear entry doors provide an additional point of entry and a place to load the vehicle. Integrating a generator will provide electric power to the vehicle when needed as well. For surveillance purposes, adding a pneumatic mast with a dome network IP camera is another option to consider for your SWAT/rapid response vehicle. The Portsmouth Police Department’s SWAT trucks are shown below as an example of this platform.
Those in need of a medium duty platform should consider this chassis type. Workstations can be customized to fit your staff’s needs with features like custom-fabricated cabinets, a 120/240Vac control center, monitors and other amenities. For storage needs, closets with motion latch doors are integrated to ensure safe transport. Features such as a portable gravity-fed eyewash station can be added for the safety of your staff as well. Integrating a generator will provide electric power to the vehicle when needed as well. Air conditioners and electric heaters keep the temperature comfortable for staff on the scene while an electric awning keeps those working outside the vehicle shaded and protected from the elements. You can also integrate other exterior features such as a flip-down step, pneumatic mast with cameras, and an exterior workstation to your vehicle as well. The Boston (MA) Police Department’s new Rapid Response vehicle is shown below.
LDV will work closely with your department to create a SWAT vehicle on a walk-in style van platform. This platform provides room for amenities such as custom bench seating with additional storage space, a workstation including a swing-out LCD monitor with smart board overlay and an external storage space with roll-up compartments. For departments with firearms on hand, an interior gun cabinet with a roll-up door accommodating different sized barrels can be integrated into cabinets within the vehicle. Prewire and installation provisions for customer-supplied equipment such as radios, telephone and cell antenna cables, and a Garmin GPS unit. On the exterior, a 14’ awning, adjustable height aluminum ladder, and Eberhard folding steps can be incorporated. A heavy-duty non-locking telescoping pneumatic mast can also be integrated to the outside of the vehicle as well. Other features can be incorporated to the exterior of your vehicle such as additional storage compartments for gear. Exterior workstations and pneumatic masts with dome network IP cameras can also add convenience. The Miami (FL) Police Department’s SWAT vehicle is shown as an example of this platform.
Departments looking for a spacious platform should consider a conventional cab chassis for their SWAT or rapid response vehicle. Multiple points of access can be created for your vehicle along with exterior door latches to keep swing doors open. In the cab area, a center console is fabricated to house the electronics equipment needed to control features such as emergency lighting and sirens along with an Intel-I-Touch screen. LDV’s exclusive Intel-I-Touch automates systems and features including HVAC, flat-floor slide-outs, pneumatic masts with dome network IP cameras, along with many more. Diamond plate provides maximum durability when used throughout the interior of the vehicle. Fixed bench seating with removable cushions can house stowable conference tables that quickly create a collaborative work space. For teams transporting explosives, a steel day box can be mounted underneath bench seating for convenience. Adams County (CO) Sheriff and their menacing all black Rapid Response/Hostage Negotiation vehicle is shown below as an example of a modern cab and chassis platform.
Trailers are another versatile option for departments in need of a SWAT or rapid response platform. These can include features like exterior workstations, electric awnings, and pneumatic masts among many others. Exterior access doors allow for convenient entry into the trailer while fold out stainless steel grab handles provide safety for those exiting and entering as well. For added durability, diamond plate can be added to seating and flooring. Closets with adjustable shelving, cargo netting with fasteners, and a gooseneck storage area can all accommodate your department’s unique storage needs. A fridge and freezer can also be integrated for storage purposes and convenience.
