LDV Flat Floor Slide-Outs: ADD WORKSPACE WITHOUT COMPROMISE

When your team is responding to an emergency, coordinating a large-scale event or managing operations from the field, interior workspace matters. A mobile command center needs to accommodate personnel, communications equipment, workstations and technology while remaining practical to transport and deploy.
One of the most effective ways LDV expands usable interior workspace is with our flat floor slide-outs.

Designed and fabricated in-house specifically for our custom specialty vehicles, LDV flat floor slide-outs can dramatically expand the working environment once a vehicle arrives on scene. Unlike conventional slide-out designs that can create a raised platform or transition in the floor, LDV’s flat floor design creates a more open, functional workspace.
What Is a Flat Floor Slide-Out?
A slide-out is an expandable section of a vehicle body that extends outward after the vehicle has been parked and deployed. Extending the room increases the width and usable interior area without increasing the vehicle’s overall width while traveling.
The difference with an LDV flat floor slide-out is right in the name: when deployed, the floor of the slide-out integrates with the primary interior floor to create a more continuous working surface.
That distinction can make a significant difference inside a busy mobile command center. Instead of simply adding square footage, the goal is to make that additional space truly usable.
More Usable Space for Your Mobile Command Center
Personnel need room to work during an incident. A command vehicle may need to support incident commanders, dispatchers, communications personnel, law enforcement officers, fire personnel, emergency management staff and representatives from multiple agencies.
Flat floor slide-outs allow LDV to create larger functional areas for applications such as:
- Conference and incident command areas
- Dispatch positions
- Communications workstations
- Briefing spaces
- Additional seating
- Computer and technology stations
- Mobile offices
- Mobile medical environments
LDV has incorporated multiple flat floor slide-outs into custom vehicles when the mission requires substantial interior workspace. Some LDV mobile command centers feature as many as four slide-outs, transforming the interior into a significantly larger command environment once deployed.

A Flat Floor Makes It Easier to Move Around
Adding space is only part of the equation.
The flat floor design eliminates the raised floor transition commonly associated with some slide-out configurations, creating a more continuous surface throughout the workspace.
That can be particularly valuable in environments where personnel frequently move between workstations, conference areas and equipment.
Office chairs and stools can move more freely across the floor, while personnel have fewer floor transitions to navigate.
For mobile medical applications, the same concept provides additional room for staff to move around while working with patients and equipment.
Designed Around the Vehicle — Not Added as an Afterthought
LDV’s flat floor slide-outs are fabricated in-house and designed specifically for the vehicle being built.
That’s important because no two specialty vehicle projects are exactly alike. Vehicle length, chassis configuration, workstation requirements, communications equipment, storage needs and the number of personnel using the vehicle can all influence the final floor plan.
Rather than designing a mobile command center around a generic slide-out system, LDV can integrate the slide-out into the overall vehicle design. The result is a workspace designed around how the customer actually intends to use the vehicle

One, Two, Three or Even Four Slide-Outs
Different missions require different amounts of space.
Some agencies may need a single slide-out to expand a front conference room. Others may benefit from multiple slide-outs supporting workstations on both sides of the vehicle.
LDV has built mobile command centers with one, two, three and four flat floor slide-outs, depending on the vehicle platform and customer requirements.
For example, LDV’s mobile command center for the Green Bay Police and Fire Departments incorporates four in-house fabricated flat floor slide-outs to maximize interior workspace. Other LDV vehicles use one or two slide-outs to create larger conference rooms, command areas or banks of workstations.
This flexibility gives agencies another way to customize the vehicle around their operational requirements.
Integrate Slide-Out Control With Intel-I-Touch™
The benefits of LDV flat floor slide-outs go beyond additional space.
Slide-out operation can also be integrated with LDV’s exclusive Intel-I-Touch™ vehicle automation system.
Intel-I-Touch provides a centralized touchscreen interface for controlling critical vehicle systems, including slide-outs, lighting, HVAC, generators, vehicle leveling and power management.
Instead of relying on multiple independent controls during vehicle setup, personnel can manage major systems from a centralized interface.
For an emergency response team arriving at an active scene, simplifying deployment means personnel can spend less time setting up the vehicle and more time focusing on the incident.

Maximize the Space Inside Your Next Mobile Command Center
Every inch matters inside a custom specialty vehicle.
LDV’s in-house fabricated flat floor slide-outs provide a practical way to maximize usable interior workspace while maintaining the mobility that makes a mobile command center valuable in the first place.
Combined with custom floor plans, commercial-grade construction, advanced communications technology and the Intel-I-Touch™ vehicle automation system, flat floor slide-outs are another example of how LDV designs vehicles around the mission.
