The Mobile Command Center: A Powerful Tool in the Emergency Response Toolbox
Mobile Command Centers are one of the most useful tools for emergency response. They provide on-scene coordination of staff members, tethering with bomb disposal units, can be used as a temporary dispatch center during a hurricane or other natural disaster and more. Today’s command vehicles are built with bathrooms, satellite communications, weather stations, exterior workstations and other cool features. Inside, the mobile command centers feature a front conference room with center table and spider base task chairs. There are three workstations in each as well. The front wall features a 43″ touch screen monitor and dual 32″ display monitors. Dual electronics racks in each vehicle have been installed to accommodate future expansion needs. There is a galley with microwave and refrigerator in each truck as well. Magnetic closure pocket doors (2) provide privacy.
The rear work room in each vehicle features four workstations with high resolution display monitors for each. Additional cabinetry is included. Complete emergency lighting and siren packages have been installed on each truck along with bright LED scene lighting.
Philadelphia Police Department of Pennsylvania recently took delivery of this new mobile command center. Built on a customer-supplied Ford E-450 chassis, the command center features all aluminum body construction and a rear hitch with bike rack. The exterior features complete emergency lights and siren package, bright LED scene lighting and a custom fabricated extreme duty body storage compartment. A weatherproof cable passthrough is included on the streetside exterior.
Inside, the command center has a front work room with two workstations. Each workstation has a spider base task chair and there are three high resolution display monitors wall-mounted. The center of the vehicle features an electronics rack and a multi-function printer. A customer-supplied HAVIS docking station is installed on the counter top. The rear conference room has a 50″ high resolution display monitor installed on the rear wall. Monitors can display a variety of video sources including the perimeter camera system. An HDMI matrix switcher is included for changing video sources efficiently. Seating in the rear room is provided by custom fabricated fixed bench seats. There is a large floor to ceiling storage closet installed as well. A rechargeable Streamlight flashlight bank is installed over the entry door for easy access.
Electrical demands are met thanks to an Onan Commercial Quiet 7kW gas generator installed in a custom generator housing. CAT6 network wiring and jacks are utilized throughout. An automatic horizontal arm awning is installed on the curbside exterior for shade.
Inside, the command center has a front conference room complete with a center table with flip down leaf and dual spider base task chairs. A magnetic closure pocket door provides privacy when needed. A lavatory with pressurized water supply is also part of the interior floor plan. Custom aluminum cabinetry with dry erase writing surface on the overhead cabinets provide room for gear. A small electronics rack houses the installed equipment. The rear room features four workstations, each with a spider base task chair.
The HVAC system consists of two low profile rooftop A/C units with wall thermostat. There are also dual wall mounted electric heaters installed. A 15kW liquid-cooled gasoline generator supplies plenty of electric power to the vehicle when deployed. Electronics are protected by a full vehicle surge suppression system. We have prewired the vehicle for the customer’s communications radios. Installation provisions have also been made for a future mast.
Tempe Police Department of Arizona chose LDV to create their new mobile command center. They chose to build this new custom vehicle on a Ford F650 regular cab chassis featuring our Intel-I-Touch™ vehicle automation system, which assists with auto start-up and shutdown procedures. This system also assists with deployment of the LDV-fabricated flat floor slide-out that has been added to maximize the interior workspace of the vehicle.
Inside, the front features a conference table with five spider base task chairs. Custom-fabricated flip-down bench seating has also been added to the front of the room for additional seating. Magnetic dry erase boards also flank a 50″ UHD 4K Smart HDTV on the driver side wall. A Norcold 3.6 cu.ft. refrigerator has also been added to the galley area for convenience.
The on-board lavatory can be accessed from the outside of the vehicle using another set of pull-out aluminum stairs encased within a narrow profile cassette. In the rear of the vehicle is another collaboration area with a removable conference table. There is also custom bench seating with removable cushions which provides additional storage in this area. Pre-wire and installation provisions have been added for communications radios to be installed by the customer. Two motorized retractable lateral arm awnings provide shade to those outside the vehicle.
